Realness to Replace the Despiriting Pressure to be Happy

I have wondered if our focus on happiness is  what is causing the most unhappiness. People, sadly, know they need to be ‘happy’ to fit into our cultural mold and when they cannot meet these unrealistic expectations, they can get depressed, become a hermit, or become suicidal. However, most people are so inured into our culture and can wear the mask, play the game, and unconsciously pretend to be OK when they are not. I used to do that. After decades of ‘playing the game’, I got so physically ill from being out of alignment with who I was, I could no longer ‘play the game’ of being fake anymore. Even today, if I fake a smile, straight away, my cheeks hurt. If I had to do it for more than a few minutes, I get unbearable headaches. I refuse to betray myself anymore. Those who are here in this incarnation to heal and help others, know the mask NEEDS TO COME OFF.

Our world needs to focus not on being happy, but being REAL.

The most selfless gift you can give to another person is their right to be unhappy.

Know that you do not owe your happiness to another person. It is rather THEIR responsibility to make themselves happy. If you need your friends to be happy for you to be happy, that is not happiness. That is energetic vampirism.

“The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better.” ― George Orwell, 1984

“Men can only be happy when they do not assume that the object of life is happiness”. –George Orwell
